The INTH is pleased to announce its second network conference on the topic of ‘The Practical Past: on the advantages and disadvantages of history for life’. This conference will be hosted and co-organized by the Sociedade Brasileira de Teoria e História da Historiografia (SBTHH) and will take place August 23-26, 2016 in Ouro Preto, Brazil.
The conference will feature keynote talks by: Christophe Bouton, Jeanne-Marie Gagnebin, Jerome De Groot, Chris Lorenz, Guillermo Zermeño Padilla, Hans Ruin and Sanjay Seth.
We will also have numerous parallel sessions on a range of topics including but not limited to:
- ethics of history
- experience/presence
- epistemology
- history as science (causation, explanation, lawfulness, modelling, …)
- historical time
- hermeneutics
- historical (in)justice
- history and mourning/trauma
- public/popular history
- substantial/speculative philosophy of history
- narrativism
- politics of history and memory
- relations between history and other scientific fields
- history of historiography
